STUMPTOWN 2009!
Wed 4/22/2009
Oh man, I just got back from an AWESOME trip to Portland, Oregon, where I exhibited at the Stumptown Comics Fest.
It was pretty much an ideal convention. The weather was FANTASTIC, Greg and I rode around on bikes, I got to hang out with a bunch of my comics friends who I only see at conventions, my parents came down from Seattle to see their first comic convention, I made some NEW friends, I sold some comics, I sang some Weezer Karaoke with Liz Baillie, and I got to chat with some of my Comics heroes (including JEFF SMITH, as you can see in this photo taken by Colleen!)
I didn't bring my camera, but there was plenty of photo documentation if people want to check out some of the fun stuff that went on:
- Colleen's got a bunch more photos in her Flickr account
- Greg also has a bunch of photos in Flickr
- And Liz posted a bunch photos that she took (and some of MK's)
This trip was especially nice because I had been working like a DOG for about a month beforehand, trying to finish up the coloring for Aaron's book. And guess what? It's DONE!!! It feels pretty amazing to be finished. It's easily the largest project I have completed thus far. The editors over at FirstSecond are going through it as I type this, and hopefully we will tackle any necessary corrections soon and then we can get cracking on book TWO! I will, of course, keep you all updated as to when the book will be coming out, etc. I can't wait for everyone to see it!
Anyway, so this whole trip felt sort of like a little vacation and/or celebration. I also feel like MAYBE this trip snapped me out of my blogging funk? I feel like I have a lot of stuff I want to post, so hopefully I will start uploading stuff more than once a week. For the time being though, I need to unpack and get back to work!
Thanks to everyone who swung by my table and checked out my comics and to all my awesome friends who made this such an enjoyable trip! I feel so lucky to know you all, and to be involved in such a wonderful, creative community.

Dude, your beard is fucking incredible.
Great to see you too, Alec. I can't wait to see the book!
As for the blog, I find it's easier to just make stuff up. Isn't that what blogging is all about anyway?
Congrats on finishing the coloring!
There are going to be TWO Walker Bean books?!!!!! Ahhhhhhhh
I second the beard comment.
Thanks guys! Yeah Chris, at least two books, and hopefully more!
