Basewood Chapter 3 = DONE!

Fri 9/18/2009

Well, last night I finished inking Basewood Chapter 3. If you click this "home-stretch" image here, it'll take you to a really large image of my full progress chart, which is pretty humbling, to say the least.

I started working on Chapter 3 on June 25th, 2007, which means it took me 816 days to complete, which is about 2 years and three months. If I'm generous, and I include the covers and endpapers into my page count, that's a finished page every 16 days, which is pretty depressing...

If you are a reader of this blog, you know that this has been a fairly busy 816 days for me, and I have had a lot of different projects to juggle while trying work on this book. So I'm not going to apologize for the delay, but I will say that I hope I can maintain a better pace for the last two chapters of Basewood. Also, I'm REALLY PLEASED with how it all turned out and I can't wait for everyone to read it!

SO. I finished inking it yesterday, I'm doing all of my corrections and touch-ups today (Friday), I'm scanning the book tomorrow, I'm going to lay everything out and do a press-check on Sunday and then Monday I'm going to start printing like mad.

If you are a Phase 7 Subscriber and you have moved recently, please send me your new mailing address! Or if any of you would just like to check on your subscription status, shoot me an email (my first name @ this website). My first priority is to get the book to the subscribers, after that is done I'll put it up for ordering on the comics page.

Also, I hemmed and hawed about whether or not to send a big stack of copies down to SPX (REMEMBER? I'm not going) and in the end, I've decided against it. I don't think I could stand missing out on the personal interaction with everyone who would get to see the book. After all this hard work, I really need to enjoy those moments, as they are one of the main benefits, and one of the few rewards of self-publishing.

Thank you SO MUCH to everyone for all of your support and encouragement through the entire production process of this comic. I suspect (or at least HOPE) this will be the hardest issue of Phase 7 I'll ever have to work on, so I really appreciate everyone who cheered me on, or the folks who came over to draw with me, or everyone who understood when I didn't want to hang out so I could draw, etc. etc. etc.

Pretty much everything else in my life has been on hold while I tried to finish this chapter up, so I'm now in the process of trying to piece stuff back together and catch up on everything. So, expect to see a flurry of updates from my corner of the world!

Congratulations Alec. That's awesome. I can't wait to read it. Very inspiring, man. I was wondering if you are still planning on printing your remaining Basewood issues of Phase 7 at the larger 8.5" x 11" size for its initial run. I remember you had said that at one time.

Thanks guys! Yeah, Cameron, the remaining Basewood chapters will be printed as Tabloid Digest (11" x 17" paper folded in half) so people can appreciate the extra detail.

Congratulations, Alec! I'm so excited to see it.

Also, whaaaaaaaa?!!!! I'm so glad to hear it'll be big! I was hoping it would be, but didn't want to ask for fear of saddening this milestone.

Thanks Zack, I'll get the post-production done as fast as I can so you you can read it ASAP!

And thank you too Chris, good luck with YOUR home stretch! Hang in there man...

Oh man, I just saw this on your front page, I'm really happy about this news! I just dug up Basewood Chapter Two from my moving boxes and I'm hot on the trail of Chapter One. I'm glad that you've come ever closer to completing this mammoth.

Alec
It was a nice surprise to arrive home back from a 4 days trip abroad and find my Basewood 1, 2 & 3 here in Paris. It was one in the morning but I still read all of them !
