Our first painting of the semester was the first of a two-part series. We were allowed to paint whatever part of the model we wanted (instead of being forced to paint the whole figure, as we did all last year) so I focused in on the head. The next in the series is the same model in the same pose, but in full color.

I was still feeling REALLY rusty and I'm pretty unhappy with how this turned out. It's like I've forgotten how to paint! I think part of the problem was that I painted this on top of an old painting from last semester. The gessoed surface was really smooth, which meant I had to use my synthetic brushes and I'm used to doing oils on a rougher surface with the hog's hair brushes. Ack! Oh well...

You can also see some nice finger prints where someone pulled my painting out of the rack to look at it or move it... :P
