My painting teacher does a REALLY good job of exposing us to all the different types of painting media. For our first class we painted with Wax Encaustic, which is quite literally paint mixed into melted beeswax.
I thought nothing could dry faster than acrylic paint, but this stuff sure does! The paint had to be held in cooking tins, on a hot plate, to keep it in liquid form. And as soon as it hit the board it hardened. It was really fun, because it was so lumpy and tactile and trying to create an image with it makes you appreciate some of the incredibly life-like paintings that were made using this same technique from all the way back in Ancient Egypt (which have survived to this day!) Fun!
