For this class we had to propose a thesis project that would last the entire semester. Here was my written statement:
Growing up, most of my favorite books were written by Roald Dahl. His best stories place a child protagonist into fantastical situations, pitted against evil creatures like witches or giants. And often the child must recruit the help of the most unlikely friends such as talking animals or gigantic insects. It is this fantastical, imaginative spirit that I want to try and capture in a series of book covers for four of Mr. Dahl's most beloved books.
The selected texts are The BFG, James and the Giant Peach, The Witches and The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me. The covers will be executed with watercolors in proportion to the measurements of a standard paperback book cover ( 5" x 7 3/4" )
Since I am going to build up all four of these illustrations at once, I'm showing my SUPER rough thumbnails here, just to introduce the project.
