For this assignment we were supposed to paint something "spiritual." I am not a particularly spiritual person, so I joked "Maybe I'll paint a white canvas." We went to the Met and wandered around last week, to look at different types of spiritual art from all over the world: Egyptian mummies, Japanese scrolls, Hindu carvings, Christian religious paintings, etc. etc. etc.

When it finally came time for me to figure out what I was going to paint though, I was still drawing a blank. (pun intended) In the end, I decided to paint a symbol of one of the only things I believe in on a spiritual level: Comics. This is one of the symbols that Scott McCloud uses in Understanding Comics to represent comics. I felt a bit embarassed in class, trying to explain it to people. I think they all thought I was joking, but Comics really mean the world to me.

Anyways, so this will proabably be hanging on my wall from now on, wherever I am.
