Since this is our last painting class, we had the option to come up with our own project, instead of continuing to explore some of the movements in modern fine art painting (Zzzzzzz). Here was my pitch:

In my last semester at Pratt I am finally beginning to enjoy painting with acrylic. However, I still do not feel like I have a very good grasp on the materials and how to manipulate them. I therefore want to propose a project that will involve a lot of small paintings, instead of only a few larger pieces.

My idea is to create 26 portraits of animals (one for each letter of the alphabet) on 10" x 10" pieces of illustration board, using acrylic. If I can not complete all 26 by the end of the semester, I will do as many as I can, trying to keep the style similar.

So without further ado, here is my first animal painting: AARDVARK! I've been printing out some reference photos for each animal, doing a couple of sketches in a little sketchbook and then coming up with a final composition and then painting it! This only took about two hours, and hopefully I will get faster as I do more.

You'll have to wait to see what the next animal is!
