I got to Barnes & Noble by about 10:45pm last night and there was already a HUGE line of people forming for Harry Potter. I took my place in line (which was somehow comforting...I guess I do this a lot, right?) and sat and drew pictures of Harry and Dumbledore and Voldemort in my sketchbook and mentally went through book 5 again so I would be totally ready for book 6.

There were TONS of kids there, most of whom were dressed up, which was awesome. I think the best one was this little girl who had a sloppily knitted, gold and maroon scarf that she had obviously made (Go Gryffindor!), Harry Potter glasses, a hand-painted lightning bolt scar and a black T-shirt she had also made that said: "I SOLEMNLY SWEAR THAT I AM UP TO NO GOOD." : )

So I got my copy at midnight without much ado. Then I pretty much RAN to the subway station so I could start reading. I was on page 10 when the C train pulled up to 110th street (my stop, which I almost missed!) and I suddenly realized I need to get off the train. As I walked to the exit, I noticed a pretty girl sitting by the door who was ALSO reading her brand new copy of Harry Potter and she looked up at me (I guess she had seen me reading) and she gave me a HUGE, ear-to-ear smile that CLEARLY communicated: "I'm reading it TOO! Harry Potter! YAY!!!" That made me really happy.

This is the weekend I'm making the hour trek out to Brooklyn and back twice a day to dogsit for Aaron. And wouldn't you know it? There is weekend construction on the L line, so I often have to sit for an EXTRA half hour each way, waiting for a train. But WHO CARES??? At least I've got something good to read! ; )

As of this writing (3pm on Saturday) I'm on page 170 and I'm FREAKING OUT with some of the stuff that is going on in the story. It is crazy and intense and TOTALLY AWESOME. I'm having so much fun reading it! I'll probably be done with it by the end of the weekend... WOO!
