Free At Last!

Wed 7/27/2005

I wore a tie to work on Friday to commorate my LAST DAY as an office worker (HOPEFULLY). I walked out on to 5th Avenue at the end of the day and got that same euphoric feeling that I ALWAYAS get when a temp assignment ends. But this time it was multiplied by the fact that there IS no "next" temp assignment. I'm FREE! School is just around the corner and I'm starting to get really excited (and nervous) about it.

When I woke up on Monday morning, I was SO RELIEVED that I didn't have to go to work. But believe you me, I have been putting my newfound freedom to good use. I got "caught up" on Basewood and have been chipping away on other illustration side projects (still top secret--but hopefully to be divulged soon!) There is still a lot more to do including FINALLY putting together my cover proposal for The New Yorker and also making stacks and stacks of zines and mini comics to sell at this year's Portland Zine Symposium! I will be busy busy busy right up until my departure home to Seattle.

Speaking of which, I was a TOTAL FOOL to complain about the heat in my last blog entry. I would give my LEFT ARM to have the "heat" from 10 days ago. It is NOTHING compaired to the living hell that is New York City right now. As I write this it is 96 degrees outside with 53% humidity, which according to weather.com makes it "feel" like it's 100 degrees. I just went downtown to run some errands and it MIGHT be the last time I am willing to leave my air conditioned room from now until I leave for Seattle.

On a much happier note, I am re-"reading" all of the Harry Potter books via AudioBooks. It is SO CRAZY to start over with this series, because now so many things have SO MUCH MORE MEANING. The first time you read it you don't really know what's going on, but now it all makes sense! I'm half way through the first book and enjoying it more than I ever did before.

ALSO, Stephanie (bless her heart) alerted me to the fact that the ENTIRE FIRST SEASON OF THE MUPPET SHOW is coming out on DVD August 8th. On one hand it's frustrating because I spent 5 years (or so?) and hundreds of dollars trying to collect all ten of the "Best Of" DVDs. But on the other hand it's SO EXCITING that I don't really care. Season One has TWENTY-FOUR episodes and a bunch of bonus material while the ENTIRE "Best Of" series only had 30 episodes and the "extras" were total crap. I can't wait to see EVERY episode!!! They better do all 5 seasons...
