Blame it on the rain...

Fri 10/14/2005

For reasons I don't really want to get into, I've had a pretty hard week, emotionally speaking. Try as as I might to avoid drama over the last two years, I guess it was bound to catch up with me eventually, self-inflicted or otherwise. I've been trying to keep as busy as I can, to avoid thinking, but that's kind of hard to do when your primary activity is sitting in a room by yourself dragging ink (or paint) across a page. Luckily, the following things are cheering me up:

1) It's been raining for like a WEEK STRAIGHT now. It's not really the same thing as Seattle rain (it's too hard and torrential), but I'll take what I can get! I love the feeling of getting ready to go out into the rain, then being outside and having WATER FALLING FROM THE SKY (how amazing is THAT???) and then the feeling of being inside again and warming up.

2) I'm dogsitting Beluga for the weekend while Aaron is back in Wisconsin for a wedding. Having a dog is REALLY great (especially when you are sad). We've been going for a 3-mile run each night when I get home from class, which has been really good. It's made me think that maybe one of the main reasons I loved playing Soccer all through my childhood was that it was played OUTSIDE in the RAIN. All that sliding around in the grass/mud. It feels so good to take a warm shower after getting drenched running around in the rain...

Anyways, not much else to report. I'm heading into midterms (??!) so the homework is really piling up. I'm going to hole up this weekend and try to chip away at it all. That, plus I have to prepare my notes for my lecture at The Center For Cartoon Studies next weekend (Aaron and I are "Visiting Faculty"!)

Alec, I love the Light, Color, Design comic you posted. Do you have dialog for it? Here's what I imagine them saying.

panel #2: "You look like you're going to throw up!"

panel #4: "Ignore the puker and kiss me!"

panel #6: "The smell of vomit is not a turn on!"

panel #7: "I think that couple is talking about me."

panel #8: "They're talking about your barf. It's gross. Look at it!"

Greg, you are ALMOST exactly right! You seriously should start filling out the "Caption Contest" on the back page of the New Yorker. You always have the funniest captions for stuff over on You could be a famous caption maker!

Just wanted to say that that drawing is awesome! Don't slip and fall and then hurt your drawing hand!

Thanks David. That is basically my new greatest fear--that I will somehow destroy my drawing hand. It's a little weird to invest so much of your future into one limb and its ability to manipulate objects!
