I have the best boss ever.

I biked over to Aaron's apartment today on my lunch break. We got some falafels and sat in the park with Beluga, which was nice. We had a long talk about a bunch of stuff we are both trying to figure out in our lives right now. Aaron is a good friend.

He's also a good PERSON! We went back to his place and he showed me these two BABY kittens (like maybe a week old?) that he rescued out of a garbage bag in a dumpster the other night. They were mewing really loud and he dug them out and totally saved their lives. It's been hell trying to find a place to take them and they need a LOT of attention (being fed every three hours!) but I guess today he finally found a shelter. For now he set them up with a box and blankets and has been bathing them and making formula and everything. I can't say I would have done the same...

Also, did anyone notice that teacher on the back of Aaron's Stuck in the Middle cover? That guy looks like a real taskmaster! ;)

In other news, I received the FINAL piece that I needed to complete Phase 7 #011 today: a Basewood pin-up from Kazimir Strzepek! (thanks Kaz!) I'll tell you, this issue is going to be worth checking out just for the letters column! I've got letters from Jeff Smith, Chris Ware, Adrian Tomine, Damien Jay and Basewood pin-ups by Kaz and my old buddy Ezra Claytan Daniels.

I've only got NINE more pages of Comics to ink and I can't wait to have it behind me. I am REALLY SICK of drawing little pictures of myself over and over again. It will feel so good to get back to work on the fictional world of Basewood! I just gotta keep my nose to the grindstone for a few more weeks...

P.S. Congratulations to the very first graduating class from The Center For Cartoon Studies!!!

I can't wait to read the next Phase 7. And I just found out about Stuck in the Middle--I'm going to have to see if I can track that down out here. I'm pleased to hear Aaron rescued those kittens. Grabage bags in a dumpster? Man. Did he take them to BARC over on Kent? I used to spend a bit of time there walking dogs, etc. Cool story anyway. My sincere congrats to him for old fashioned heroics. I'm really looking forward to Aaron's book too. Too many cool things to wait for. John P. and Walden! The first book I read upon my arrival to NY, 16 years ago. I need to have another peek at that. I'm SO jealous you got a sneek peak.

Damn, I should have said "I took Kitty Pryde over to Aaron's house today." Next time!

so sad that some one had to be that thoughtless and cruel as to necessitate Aaron's heroics... just amazing. sigh.

I am excited to see the next phase 7... and it sounds like it will be a great one. Keep up the good work brother.
