ICAF 2013

Wed 5/22/2013

Tonight I head back to Portland, Oregon for the International Comics Arts Forum. I will be the official representative from The Center for Cartoon Studies, which basically means that I get to hang out and see all of the amazing presentations.

CCS hosted ICAF back in 2011, which was very interesting. There are usually a few cartoonists at the conference, but most of the panels are presented by professors from around the country (and world!) who have written academic papers about comics. The schedule for this year has all kinds of interesting topics, including lectures about comics from New Delhi, Indonesia, Chile and Finland, and topics such as gender and sexuality in comics, comics about the American south, women in comics and a bunch of panels about comics theory.

ICAF is free to attend, but you need to sign up. If you live in Portland, I highly recommend swinging by to some of the panels, or the evening events! The festival is being hosted by the University of Oregon this year, at their Portland campus, which is about five blocks away from Ground Kontrol... one guess as to what I'll be doing each night after the conference! ;)
