Originally I thought I'd paint one of those really BIG turtles (you know, the kind you can RIDE...) but I thought that might actually be more of a tortoise, so I thought I'd go for just like a smallish turtle.

ANYWAYS, I liked the "mortar" color between the panels of the shell, so I just carried that down around the appendages too. But for the head I brought in a few lines of the shell color to help bring the focus to the face. Does that make sense? Also, I went through FOUR different background colors, and really like this violet I ended up with...
