CHAPTER 6 - Photography Gallery

This section of the Cardboard Man web documentary contains all the non-process photos of the CBM. As time passes, I will no doubt add more photos. The CBM is still alive and well and doing all sorts of wacky stuff...

The only real alterior motive to building the Cardboard Man was to send a picture of him to the people at LucasFilm Ltd. I was applying for their summer internship at the time and was trying to fufill the "briefly describe something creative you have recently done" section of their application. I enclosed the picture of the CBM spanking my ass at chess. I even had Gabe set up a REAL chess game, so that the CBM is really winning. I did not get the internship. But I did get this amusing picture!

This is a photograph taken on my friend Frunch's digital camera. It does a pretty good job of showing how accurate the proportions of the Cardboard Man are. The height is pretty good, and the Legs are right on. The Arms are a little long because I don't think I accounted for the Joints and the length they added. The head is also a little large. It's not perfect, but not many Cardboard People are...

Also it should be noted that the CBM does NOT stand by himself. This was one of those shots where Gabe is holding the CBM and then Frunch yells, "GO!" and Gabe jumps out of the picture, we take it and then he jumps back in and grabs the CBM before he falls over.

During my Senior year at Oberlin College the CBM sat in a chair that faced the door to the hallway. I would occasionally prop the door so that he could look out on the people passing by. I took this picture one afternoon in the fall while the sun was setting. I think it's a nice picture. I really like the shadows and the way they are crawling across my wall of to-do lists.

Eat your heart out Annie Liebowitz!!! When I graduated from college I had to ship the Cardboard Man from Ohio to Seattle. I played around with various positions for him so that he would fit into the smallest box possible. Of course in the end I had to build a custom box to get him safely across the country.

When I put him into this "fetal position" I immediately thought of the famous photograph of John Lennon and Yoko Ono that Annie Liebowitz (sp?) took. This is my little spoof on it. :)
NOTE: Keep checking back! I will post more fun photos of me and the Cardboard Man hanging out on this page!
