For the past few months I've been collaborating with my old friend Sudara on some interactive comics which we're calling Additive Synthesis 101. We've done two so far, and for each comic Sudara wrote a first draft which I then adapted into comics. Then we built an interactive "last panel" that combines animation, music, and various input methods to let you play with the concepts explained in the comic.
Last week Sudara officially launched his new additive synthesizer, Sine Machine. What's cool, is that the comics aren't just trying to get you to buy the synth, they are explaining the concepts (harmonics, timbre) behind the synth, so you can have more fun using it, if you chose to buy it (I have! It's fun!).
The response to the comics has been very warm so far, so we're planning to make more eventually!
Viva La Dvorak!
In other "non-fiction Alec comics on the web" news, I recently relaunched DVzine.org, the online home for the 2005 zine I co-created with my friends Frunch and GCB, The Dvorak Zine. The website is considerably smaller now, - I removed several dead pages and axed about a hundred dead links - all killer, no filler! The comic is much bigger now and easier to read, works on mobile, etc. etc. etc.
