The fun never stops

Thu 9/9/2010

Well, I'm still reeling from my night backstage with Weezer. There is some aftershock-awesomeness from that night which is still playing itself out, but I probably shouldn't talk about that yet. I will, of course, report on these goings-on when it is appropriate.

In the meantime, Weezer started streaming their entire new album "Hurley" the other day over on their MySpace page. Check it out! There are some seriously rocking tunes. I have been listening to it non-stop, natch. The album comes out for real on September 14th. Also this year Weezer will be releasing a deluxe edition of Pinkerton (with a bunch of crazy extras) and "Death to False Metal" which is a collection of unreleased album songs. Also, maybe another Rivers "Alone" album, which might actually be a BOOK this time? Anyway, there has never been a better time to be a Weezer super fan!

In other news, I went up to Randolph on Saturday to have dinner with my old friend Charlotte, who was home with her husband Ed to visit her whole family. I was wearing shorts, and I actually got COLD playing outside in their backyard! Needless to say, I have been wearing pants ever since. So long, summer - GOOD RIDDANCE!

Sunday and Monday, I housed Julie Delporte and Bert who had driven down from Montreal for a visit (though Bert was actually visiting Montreal from Belgium, where he is a member of L'employe du Moi). I'm ashamed to say that I was a horrible host. I spent most of their trip to White River Junction down in the CCS lab, frantically trying to get Drop Target #1 ready for SPX. Hopefully next time our paths cross we will have some time to actually hang out together.

Well, regardless, the zine is done, and I have to say - I think it's the coolest zine I have ever made. Jon Chad and I really pulled out all the stops on this one. It's 52 pages, with a screen printed cover and a full-color centerfold, which we'll be selling for $5. If you're into pinball, this is going to make you do a back flip. And if you're NOT into pinball, this might just get you IN to pinball!

I taught my first Professional Practices class today, and then I have tomorrow to get all of my stuff together for SPX. I'm heading down to Washington D.C. on the train Friday morning and then unfortunately Jon and I have to hop in a car and drive back IMMEDIATELY after the show on Sunday, so we can teach our first Publication Workshop class on Monday.

But I'd rather not think about that just yet. For now, I'm really looking forward to seeing all of my comics friends, and to see a room full of people holding copies of Walker Bean with amazing sketches in them. Also my tablemate Greg will be selling copies of my sister Galen's new picture book "Yes Let's!" which was illustrated by Maris Wicks AND the new Papercutter, with a nice fat story illustrated by my old pal Nate. Who knows what OTHER great books will be lurking in the aisles... too many to count, I'm sure of that! Needless to say, if you're in the Bethesda / Washington D.C. area, swing on by to SPX. It would be great to see some of you there!
