Seriously, it never stops

Friday, I took the train from White River Junction to Washington D.C. This took a long time, but I didn't really mind. I caught up on some much-needed sleep, wrote some letters, and worked a bunch on a TOP SECRET illustration assignment (just you wait!) I arrived at the SPX hotel a little after midnight, only to find that the hotel bar was crammed full of almost all of my favorite cartoonist pals. SPX is the best.

After a quick dinner of BEER, I headed up to the room with Greg, Nate, and Aaron (who I hadn't seen in SO LONG). It felt a lot like summer camp, all sleeping in the same room. We laughed and laughed and laughed and went to bed way too late.

Saturday and Sunday, the show was awesome. There were a TON of people there, on BOTH sides of the table! I was in the "H" block along with a slew of awesome friends. It was so great hanging out with everyone all day, and to meet a bunch of awesome attendees. It was also really great to finally see people walking around with copies of Walker Bean. It's out there! And tons of people told me how much they liked it (including the colors!). After all that hard work, this was very satisfying to hear.

That photo above is "the best of the best" but I got about four times that many awesome comics. It's going to be great digging into them over the next few weeks.

The INSTANT the show was over on Sunday, Katherine, Jon, Colleen and I jumped into Laura's car and she started the drive back to Vermont. We got in at about 4am, which was a bit rough, to say the least.

Monday, Jon and I taught our first Publication Workshop class to the new CCS first years. I was a little cranky and tired, but overall I think it went okay. That night I played some pinball for the first time in like a WEEK, which felt totally awesome (I got two replays).

Then TODAY, I drove down to The New Hampshire Institute of Art to give my Your Comics Will Love You Back lecture to a bunch of people down there. Today was ALSO the day that Weezer's new album HURLEY was released! So I have been rocking out to that all afternoon and evening, while finishing another page of Basewood and working on said TOP SECRET illustration assignment.

MEANWHILE, ON THE WEST COAST Claire had her last day of work on Thursday. She spent the weekend doing the last of her packing and then late last night she headed out to the airport with her roommate Stephanie and their pal Vicki. The three of them are traveling to AUSTRALIA to travel around and visit their friend Sam, who is studying UNDERWATER ARCHEOLOGY in Adelaide (?!)

Claire gets back to The States on the same day that I travel out to San Francisco for APE. I'm tabling at that show October 16th and 17th, which will be my last show of the year. Then Claire and I will be DRIVING from San Francisco back to White River Junction, with all of her stuff (!!!!)

So between now and then, I've got about a month to get as much work done on Basewood as humanly possible! Frankly, after all of these adventures, I'm looking forward to just holing up in my studio and getting some work done. I better get cracking!

I was at your lecture today at NHIA, and I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed it! Thanks for coming down and talking to us art students. I'm from the Upper Valley area myself(Lebanon to be exact) and actually took a field trip to CCS during high school. It's awesome knowing that an artist such as yourself lives in the area! :D

Busy man! But hey, 1) all of it's great, and 2) winter is coming up, so you'll have plenty of drawing time. As long as you can get out of the apartment to your studio!

Thanks Samantha! I'm glad you enjoyed the talk.

No worries John, it's a short walk to the studio. I don't know about you, but I'm definitely ready for Winter!
